Vision Services
Primary Care
Our primary care eye examination consists of a complete examination of internal and external eye health including testing for cataracts, glaucoma, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Numerous tests are used to determine your best spectacle prescription for comfortable vision at all viewing distances. In addition, focusing, eye alignment, and eye coordination are assessed to ensure you are capable of maintaining clear comfortable vision throughout your day.
Eye Health Care
In addition to our primary eye care services; we pride ourselves on being able to offer our patients the newest equipment for the best in eye health assessment. Technology allows us to actually “map” the shape of your eye, evaluate your peripheral vision in detail, photograph or digitally document the status or your eye health if you have a health condition and prepare you for or follow after you have cataract or laser refractive surgery. In the area of refractive surgery, all our doctors are certified to assess if you are a candidate for laser refractive surgery. We carefully and thoroughly test your eyes to you ready for that big day. You can rest assured that we will be here to follow-up with you the day after and beyond. We are happy to answer whatever questions you may have about the latest trends in eye surgery and how they apply to your eyes.
Contact Lenses
The days of one-size of contact lenses to fit all patients are long gone. Keeping up on what new contact lens designs and how to fit all the products available to our patients is what we pride ourselves on. We successfully fit patients of all ages (8 years old to 78 years old) with the best contact lens products that maximize vision, ensure precious eye health, and offer comfort and handling. Customization of the fit for each patient is why we are one of the largest contact lens practices on the North Shore. If you tried contact lenses before and had difficulty or think that contact lenses are not available in your prescription, contact our office for a consultation. We will be happy to go over all the new designs that are available in contact lenses for your prescription.
Pediatrics
We recognize that the proper development of vision as a primary sense from birth through the school years is critical to a child’s future success in school and life. We can measure visual function as early as 6 months. However, most parents begin bringing their children in for annual exams beginning at age 3. Our office is equipped with special equipment, eye charts and even developmental assessments to thoroughly examine the visual readiness of your child’s eyes for each step of his or her early years through college and beyond.
Vision Rehabilitation
This aspect of vision care can involve the simple training of focusing or tracking for a school child or teaching one of our senior citizens with low vision how to better use remaining vision. Our goal is to always restore as much visual function as possible and then to teach greater efficiency through enhancement of eye movement skills, focusing, eye coordination, and visual processing skills such as visual memory or fine motor skills. We serve patients ranging from the athlete wishing to reach a higher level in a given sport, a young child with lazy eye (amblyopia) or an eye turn (strabismus), an elementary student with a vision related learning disorder, to an adult who has lost vision due to eye disease or suffered brain injury from an accident, stroke or surgery.
Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), a progressive eye disease that affects the central macula of the eye leaving sufferers with only peripheral vision, is the leading cause of visual impairment and acquired blindness in the U.S. Both the severity and irreversibility ARMD have generated interest in ways to either prevent or delay their progression. Approximately 10 million Americans suffer from early signs of ARMD. Macular Degeneration creates a distortion or loss of central vision. Age-related Macular Degeneration (ARMD), is the most common cause of irreversible vision loss for people over the age of 60. The pigment in your macula is made up of Zeaxanthin and Lutein, two important nutrients for maintaining healthy vision. Both these nutrients are found in the retina. While Lutein exists mainly in the peripheral zone of the macula, Zeaxanthin is highly concentrated in the center of the retina, the area responsible for fine detail and central vision. Both nutrients play a protective role in shielding the eye from oxidative stress and damaging blue light.
